A meteor hit Russia at 09:20 Yekaterinburg Time on 15 February 2013.

It’s weight was 10,000 tons and its speed was 18 km/s above the atmosphere but when it entered the atmosphere it slowed down to about 8-6 km/s, its weight was reduced to about 500 tons. This is because when the meteor comes in from space, entered the atmosphere and because of air resistance and drag it was slowed down + because of air resistance the weak points of the meteor broke up and became tiny pieces plus the surface of the meteor heated up to about 6000 degrees C this melted some of the metal, that made the meteor lighter. Then amazingly, the meteor exploded!!!! In mid air!!! This explosion occurred 15 to 25 km above the ground and shrapnel(bits of metal or glass) rained down in the area(this is not why the glass broke). The shockwave from the meteor shattered glass,damaged building and other property. Sadly many people were injured about 1200 people when the meteor exploded in mid air. This incident is compared to the incident called the Tunguska event. This event was also caused by a meteor approximately the same size and grabbed headlines just like this incident. Dmitry Medvedev the prime minister of Russia is suggesting that we should build a more advanced warning system(since we already have a warning system) for protection from any objects from outer space. Oh by the way I forgot to mention the name of the meteor! Its called the Chebarkul meteor. So that’s a little bit about the Chebarkul meteor, if you want more information stay tuned there will be a post coming up.

This is a review of the Silver Birch book called The Grave Robber’s Apprentice. This book is a fantastic, amazing book. This book is great because every time you flip the page you have a curious feeling like what’s going to happen next? Will they get caught or not. Here is an example in the book the character named Angela screams” Mom….Dad are you there?” here parents were supposed to rescue her from the evil archduke(king). So the question was were they going to come or not? So that was a very small part of the book. Another good thing about it is that it shows how a very poor boy(The grave robbers apprentice) becomes a king with nothing but…..Oh sorry but I can’t tell you. You have to read the book first to find out. I personally give this book a thumps up ,its a great book. I really hope you read this book and have a fun time. You must see the movie The Lorax, its a great movie and its about how people cut down trees and harm the environment. Its a animated movie so it has very good picture quality. Its a movie for all ages and the best part is that it is written by the great Dr.Suese!!! As you know he is famous for writing movies for kids. Oh you don’t? If you don’t, go to Wikipedia and type in Dr.Suese. I recommend you see the movie with your parents and I hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for more movie reviews.

My grade 5 class should on a field trip to O.S.C (Ontario Science Centre) because its a science centre so obviously it will be educational and plus I love science. Reasons, first there is a cool room that explains how airplanes fly, since my hobbie is building model airplanes I want to visit that room and learn more about how the machine called airplane flies. Second, I want to learn about space history, For example: The first man on the moon (Neil Armstrong) or the First man in space (Yuri Gagarin) and what space craft or rocket made them accomplish these objectives.   Another cool reason is that if we go to the science centre the whole class can get tickets to see a show in the omnimax dome, seeing a science or history documentary, that will be super educational!!!. I think the class would love the rocks and mineral gallery, there are minerals such as gold, silver, diamonds and platinum to see.

My passions are studying physics, aeronautics and photography
whenever there I have a free moment I design my own aircraft and make small models of them.
I always am reading books on physics.For example-I know 2 of 3 Newtons laws of physics(since the laws of physics are also used in aeronautics they match perfectly)
