Cool Science

This week I am going to talk about the TitanIIIE-centaur. Four of these rockets were used to launch the voyager 1,2 and Viking 1,2.These vehicles used rocket power to just get it into earth orbit and then they used RTG(Radiostope Thermoelectric Generator) to power the spacecraft and to make it function. The main engines of the rocket use liquid fuel and during the launch it used 2 other solid fuel boosters to give it enough thrust to lift off.The first stage liquid fuel rocket provides 2,340 kilonewtons of thrust and the two solid rocket boosters provide 11,698 kilonewtons of thrust for liftoff. This spacecraft has a mass of 632,970 kilograms. The Saturn V rocket is about 4 times heavier than this spacecraft so compared its pretty light. This rocket has helped make history.
